I love french toast, and this is an easy way to serve it without standing over a stove top for an hour cooking individual slices. It's also a great make-ahead recipe!

You can customize this with different toppings, like bacon, raisins, nuts, or even cinnamon apple pie filling!

INGREDIENTS:
  • 1 loaf sour dough, french, or brioche bread
  • 8 large eggs
  • 2 Cups half & half
  • 1 Cup milk
  • 2 Tbls granulated sugar
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1/2 tsp ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 tsp ground nutmeg
  • Dash salt
  • 4 Tbls unsalted butter
  • 3 Tbls brown sugar
  • 1 tsp cinnamon
  • Maple syrup
INSTRUCTIONS:
  1. Generously butter a 9x13 baking dish.
  2. Slice bread into 1-inch cubes and arrange in baking dish.
  3. In a large bowl, combine eggs, half & half, milk, sugar, vanilla, cinnamon, nutmeg, and salt and whisk until well blended.
  4. Pour mixture over bread, making sure everything is coated evenly.
  5. Cover with foil and refrigerate overnight or for 8-12 hours.
  6. When you're ready to bake, melt the butter, brown sugar, and cinnamon and pour over the casserole.
  7. Put the casserole in the oven and set it to 375*F. Never put a cold dish in a hot oven!
  8. Bake casserole for at least 45-55 minutes (bake time depends on bread used) - a knife should come out clean when inserted into the casserole (that means the egg mixture is thoroughly cooked).
  9. Drizzle maple syrup all over casserole and serve hot.
